Description
18th Antique Rustic Primitive Country Farmhouse Wabi Sabi Folk Art Armchair, Northern Europe
18th century unusual folk art wooden chair from northern Europe.
This characteristic and primitive chair is entirely handmade and assembled with mortise and tenon joints
This type of simple, handmade folk art furniture (often referred to as primitive furniture) originates mostly from Northern European countries (such as the Benelux, France) or Central Europe, where local artisans in the 18th centuries used native wood that was locally available. This chair is probably beech or walnut
It is a relatively high chair (seat height 51 cm) that makes it easy to come to a stand up position and the extra length of the resting surface provides comfortable, full support for the forearms, which is typical of handmade functional furniture from this period (circa 1800)
The sculptural presence and simplicity of this chair makes perfectly suited in a range of interiors, as a stand out piece in any antique collection, from rustic Scandinavian farmhouse to a minimalist wabi-sabi setting or a curated collection of global antiques
Good and solid frame, an old burn spot on the seat, see pictures and normal age-consistent wear and tear, great original patina
Dimensions: 51 cm seat height, 99 cm total height, 53 cm width and 42 cm depth
