Armand Blondeel (1928-2002) trained in the studio of stained-glass artist Henri Coppejans in the Neo-Gothic tradition, was influenced by his colleagues, and also had the opportunity to attend classes at the Ghent Academy, which he continued full-time after completing his studio training. Blondeel connected with Latem painters such as Hubert Malfait, Constant Permeke, and Leon De Smet. He graduated in 1954 and had been working as an independent stained-glass artist since 1952, developing a recognizable, abstract style that was also influenced by his travels.
His work was quickly noticed in the 1958 World Fair in Brussels, where he was awarded a gold medal in the exhibition Modern art crafts in Belgium for his work Abstract, also in this exhibition on the van de Velde Prize.
