Franz Metzner Bronze Atlas Man Chandelier, Art Deco 1911

Bronze ceiling light dated around 1911 designed by Joseph Hoffmann and Franz Metzner and assembled in the Wiener Werkstaette (Vienna Workshop)
Among Metzners most important work was the collaboration with Josef Hoffmann. Metzner was commissioned to create the sculptures for Josef Hoffmann's 1904–1911 famous landmark Vienna Secession Stoclet Palace in Brussels including the eccentric four green male nudes that are mounted on the tower of the building , a masterpiece designed by JOsef Hoffmann for the Wiener Werkstätte. And this particular chandelier is made with the same sculptural figures as they used on the summit of the Stoclet building, it has the same architectural influences
This unique chandelier has hree arms in the shape of cornucopiae,the edges with continuous rows of bearded men's heads in relief, each with three electric sockets in tulip-shaped drip basins. In the center a semicircular bowl held by three standing male figures (so-called ATLAS men), the base plate with three applied ram's heads above a wreath of rose blooms. Complete with three chains and bronze ceiling plate.
In pretty nice condition, minor surface wear to the bronze, some pics and patina on the bronze. The chandelier has still the original wiring. As you can see in the photo's the lamp is in working condition but needs rewiring
Diam 66 cm 96 cm H including the cieling plate (the round golden sunrays circle you see in the pictures at the cieling is not included)
Provenance: The daughter of the Van Waes-Boodts Bavarian Brewery family in Westdorpe, Zeeuws Vlaanderen, Netherlands received this lamp as a gift from her family on her wedding day.
