Beautiful antique religious hand embroidered procession banner of the Holy Childhood Society Kiel 1880
The Association of the Holy Childhood was a missionary society founded in 1843 in Paris.
This organization had to create a missionary awareness among Catholic children and encourage them to pray and make offerings.
For this purpose, so-called Childhood processions were organized in which this banner was carried.
The Society Holy Childhood was active in many places and mainly focused on children in mission areas such as China and Africa.
In May 1844, the society was recognized by Pope Gregory XVI.
This banner has beautiful embroidery with gold and silver thread on red velvet and provided with all kinds of ornaments and stones.In the center is the image of the Child Jesus with cross and globe.
The banner is in a good condition with normal signs of usage
At some places some stones and ornaments are missing and the embroidery shows some wear, see detailed pictures
The wooden bar at the top had a knob on the left and right, but these have partly disappeared on both sides over the years
Dimensions: The bar is 64.5 cm wide and the banner is 63 cm wide. The height of the banner including the stick and the fringes at the bottom is 107 cm.
