Original decorative end part of a cart axle located underneath the cart box of a 19th Century Sicilian horse-, ox- or donkey-drawn carriage in carved wood and iron
The extremely elaborate and ornate hand forged, chiseled iron part shows knights with helmets, swords and shields and is decorated with arabesques featuring anthropomorphic and phytomorphic elements which refers back to artifacts from the eastern part of the Island. The wooden part is made ash wood, without any painted decoration depicting a Roman chariot, a castle and the carved name, Petrarca.Francesco. Crammichele.
