Magnificent solid hand-carved mahogany Biedermeier/ Black Forest fauteuil or armchair from the Belle Epoque period, ca 1870
Its front legs and armrests are curved and have volutes bringing a certain elegance
High backrest with on top a Black Forest-style carving with grapes and leaves decoration
Re-upholstered in the recent past with a quality green velvet fabric, also the webbing straps and springs has been replaced in the recent past so the seat is very comfortable
These unusual shaped type of fauteuils entered the interiors of upper class houses especially popular in Biedermeier and Belle Epoque period in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands
