Antique Burmese Folk Art Hand Crafted Marionette ca 1890-1900
Description
An enchanting wooden hand-carved figure, partly painted, Zawgyi the Alchemist.
Dressed in colorful traditional Burmese clothing decorated with sequins, mirrored tiles and glass beads.
The lower jaw, arms, fingers and legs are movable by means of strings pulled on a frame. The glass eyes, as well as the black beard of natural hair, are set into the head.
The marionette wears carved slippers in the shape of swimming ducks. Normal wear due to age.
Made around 1890-1900 and has the original pewter import lable of origin and authenticity
The puppet is 72.5 cm H, 10 cm D and 32 cm W. Weight 1750 g
