Old antique small iron anvil mounted on a wooden block
Description
This is a small model old iron anvil together with a sharpening block ( denglestock) mounted on a rough, robust wooden beating block/tree stump.
The anvil is a so-called stake anvil or sharpening anvil; these small, easily portable anvils were used by farmers in the fields to sharpen the blade of a scythe or sickle (the so-called 'sharpening' of the scythe).
Presumably from the 19th century or the early 20th century.
The weathered iron and aged wooden block give it a beautifully authentic and sculptural appearance of a pure work of art that fits perfectly within a rustic country farmhouse, Wabi-Sabi, industrial, or minimalist interior.
