Pair of large Vintage Chinese Canton Rose Medallion Vase Lamps – Macau – Hand-Painted
Description
Add character, color, and a touch of Eastern mystique to your interior with this impressive pair of large Canton Rose Medallion vases, expertly converted into exclusive table lamps around the mid-20th century (1950s/1960s).
These vintage eye-catchers were entirely hand-painted in Macau, China, featuring stunning, vibrant colors. They are richly decorated with gold leaf and feature relief handles shaped as Foo Dogs and Chilong dragons. The lamps are mounted on their characteristic openwork Chinese wooden bases.
With an impressive total height of 76 cm, these lamp bases form the ultimate, chic statement piece for an eclectic, high-end Oriental, or Hollywood Regency interior.
Authentic Details & Markings
The underside of the vases features a red square seal mark (Qianlong mark). In the 20th century, Chinese porcelain makers used these historic imperial seals as a tribute to the golden age of Chinese porcelain art and to emphasize the traditional style.
The stamped text "HAND-PAINTED" along with the residue of the original label (which originally read "Hand-Painted in Macau") confirms the authentic, manual decoration in the famous workshops of Macau during the mid-20th century. The handwritten vintage label displays an old inventory or model number ("V409-24"), typical for high-end, exclusive export pieces sold through specialized importers or luxury interior boutiques in Europe and America.
Placement & Functionality
Thanks to their monumental size – a height of no less than 76 cm and a diameter of 30 cm – they are perfectly suited for a large sideboard, a luxury console table in the hallway, or placed symmetrically on either side of a sofa.
The lamps are fully functional, equipped with a power cord featuring an in-line switch, and are in working order (as shown in the photograph with the lights turned on). The bronze/copper cover plates at the top have developed a beautiful patina. For shipping or maintenance, the lamps can be completely disassembled (see photos).
