Fabulous and unique set of 2 Italian figural carved oak sgabello chairs, around 1840
The chairs are covered with intricate carvings of a coat of arms in the backrest flanked with rampant lions and on the top finished with a crown symbolising power and victory
The seat itself is decorated with flower motifs.
The base of the chairs are decorated with a grotesque mask
These sgabello's have a great visual aspect with the tall back ant the sculptural and symbolic carvings
These chairs where found in the hall entrance of the Italian Palazzo's of the important aristocratic families as a show of or as a short rest place. Not for a long sit.
Very good condition considering the age with a great patin.
An age-related crack on the back side of the base of one of the chairs and a small restautarion on the top of one of the chiars, see detailed photo
Size: 125 cm high, seat height 55 cm . 42 cm wide en 47 cm deep. The seat is 34 cm wide and 37,5 cm deep
The weight is around 10 kilo per chair
